New Technology Course Description ** DRAFT **

Introduction to Technology is a 2-semester, 5-credit course focused on tech literacy and productivity in the educational and professional settings. Through project-based lessons and assessments, students learn 21st Century Skills in critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, digital citizenship, and productivity (Technology Frameworks NETs, METIRI, P21).  Students taking this course will become proficient in basic computer skills. They will learn how to use and understand basic computer-related terms, identify basic computer hardware components and peripheral devices, and perform basic computing operations (Standard 1).  Students will be asked to create products employing productivity software applications for Multimedia presentations, Desktop publishing, Word processing, Spreadsheets, and/or Web development. In addition, students will be exposed to new and emerging Web 2.0 tools (blogs, social networking, etc.) that foster collaboration and digital publication to audiences beyond the classroom (Standards 3, 4, and 5). The course will survey various current and historical issues and concepts related to technology (legal, social, and ethical), while also examining the ever-evolving interaction between technology and society (Standard 2).
